Y. Mark Hong, M.D., is a Phoenix native, Board-certified urologist specializing in minimally invasive surgery. Upon graduating summa cum laude from Rice University, Dr. Hong attended Stanford University School of Medicine where he received several research prizes. Dr. Hong then completed surgery and urology residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. While at Harvard, Dr. Hong was selected as a prestigious national CaPSURE scholar and led research with scientists from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and UCSF. Dr. Hong then completed a robotic and minimally invasive surgery fellowship at George Washington University before joining Arizona Urology Specialists.
Dr. Hong was the first surgeon in the Southwestern United States to perform PVP laser TURP for BPH in the office with XPS laser technology. Dr. Hong was also the first to perform “scarless” laparoscopic nephrectomy in Phoenix by removing a kidney through a single site in the belly button. Dr. Hong continues to develop innovative and minimally invasive methods to treat conditions such as BPH, kidney stones, prostate cancer and kidney cancer. His work has been featured on NBC, CBS, Fox, ABC, 3TV and KTAR. Dr. Hong is internationally-recognized as an expert in minimally invasive surgery by the Endourological Society.
A classically trained violinist and Tae-Kwon-Do black belt, Dr. Hong cherishes balance in his life by golfing, marathoning, swimming and supporting local charities.
He actively works with the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation for prostate cancer causes and supports the Phoenix Symphony, an organization he grew up with. Having served for years in the Stanford Admissions Panel, Dr. Hong continues to mentor local Phoenix students and aspiring physicians.
Dr. Hong’s practice principles are integrity, respect and compassion. Having studied acupuncture in Beijing, China, Dr. Hong brings an open yet scientific philosophy to his urological practice. Dr. Hong is proud to practice in the community of his childhood.
